Fire Dangers to Avoid This Summer

Summer is here, and that means it is time for fun and relaxation! However, it can also mean danger. The summertime heat (and activities) can cause an understandable surge in fires.

In this article, our fire safety experts at 1st Res will discuss some of the most common fire hazards associated with summer, and make sure you know exactly how to avoid them.

BBQ’s

One of the most popular summer pastimes is grilling outdoors with family and friends. While barbecues can be a lot of fun, they can also be dangerous if not done correctly.

Be sure to follow these tips to ensure a safe and fun barbecue this summer:

  • Keep your grill clean! A buildup of grease and food can cause a fire.
  • If you use a gas grill, check the hose for leaks before each use.
  • Never leave your grill unattended while it is on.
  • Keep any children and pets away from the grill.

By following these simple tips, you can ensure a fun and safe barbecue this summer!

Fireworks

are Fun… but can be dangerous.

Fireworks are a quintessential part of any 4th of July celebration! Are you Idaho if you don’t love the 4th of July? It is normal to purchase and set off fireworks every year, but it is very easy to forget that they are basically small explosives.

Even store-bought fireworks can be extremely dangerous and should be treated with caution. Every year, thousands of people are injured by fireworks, especially on the 4th of July. The best way to avoid being injured by fireworks is to leave the lighting to the people with the most experience. Kids may want to light fireworks, but you should never let a child light a firework themselves.

When lighting any fireworks, be sure to read the instructions on each firework before lighting, keep a bucket of water or hose nearby in case of fires, and never try to relight a “dud” firework. Wait 20 minutes before picking it up, and then soak it in a bucket of water.
